Worshiping lord Shiva and Parvati completes the ceremony of Hariyali Teej:
It is believed that on the day of Hariyali Teej, goddess Parvati kept a day-long ‘waterless’ fast for lord Shiva and prayed for their long life. This makes the festival of Teej extremely auspicious and worthy for every married couple and brings unbroken fortune.
The whole narrative of Hariyali Teej: The Hariyali Teej narrative of Lord Shiva and goddess Parvati is really a beautiful heavenly story.
Parvati supposedly underwent 107 births before being granted the opportunity to wed Lord Shiva. On the Shukla Paksha Tritiya of Shravan, Parvati could marry Lord Shiva when she gave birth for the 108th time. During that period, she severed all connections and spent her days nibbling on dried leaves. However, Lord Shiva’s severe celibacy rules kept him from understanding Parvati’s love for him. Parvati realized that she had to demonstrate Lord Shiva her affection in order to get his attention. Following a treacherous journey to the Himalayas, she made her home in a cave where she became completely absorbed in her devotion to Lord Shiva. Parvati created a sand carved Shiva Lingam because of her love for Lord Shiva. Satisfied by her devotion, Lord Shiva appeared before her and fulfilled her wish. Goddess Parvati was anointed as Lord Shiva’s wife due to her observance of the fast and the daytime rituals she carried out. It has since been believed that any lady who keeps this fast for the full duration of her devotion will get the blessings she seeks from Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.
