The advent of science and technology has given us some wondrous inventions. But more often than not, the endeavaours which began by taking inspiration from the nature have now turned into evident misuse of resources instead of optimal usage. Let’s have a deeper look at one such threat today.
Plastics are transparent, light-weight, inexpensive and flexible materials. Due to these properties, they’ve become commodity packaging materials over the past few decades. What we failed to notice early on with the plastics is that these are biodegradable in nature and can become fatal for the marine life. As a result, the oceans and even lands are choking with this menace.
INDIA, THE GLOBAL HOST 2018
Having realized the threat posed to environment, the United Nations organized the first environmental conference of countries all over the world in Stockholm (Sweden) in 1972 and 5th June was declared as the World Environment Day to make the citizens aware of the pollution menace. As the world suffers from the single-use, non-recyclable plastics, India is the global host of the annual events.
THEME and AWARENESS ON SOCIAL MEDIA…
This year’s theme for World Environment Day is ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’ and the social media is flooded with posts to spread awareness. Celebrities have posted various pictures and their thoughts. The internationally renowned sand artists Sudarsan Pattnaik and Manas Kumar Sahoo have given a thoughtful meaning to their wonderful art.
