SGPC vs. Baba Ram Rahim: High Court Rejects Parole Petition – Key Reasons Explained

Today during the latest hearing of the Honorable Punjab Haryana High Court, the final decision has been taken and the petition of SGPC against the Dera Sacha Sauda chief Baba Ram Rahim on parole act has been dismissed.

What is the Parole Act and why did Baba Ram Rahim get involved in it?

Dera Sacha Sauda chief, Baba Ram Rahim has been under 20 years of imprisonment since 2021 and has been granted around 10 parole in the past 3 years based on good behavior and peaceful prisonment.

According to the parole act, a convict on bailable prisonment can himself or his relatives/friends/lawyer can make an application to the Superintendent of jail for bail. The circumstances are verified by the concerned police station and granted by the superintendent of Jail.

A convict could get a maximum of 98 days of parole in a year. Baba Ram Rahim had also been getting parole based on these limits.

This clearly states that the honorable high court needs no mention in the act of parole granted to any prisoner unless and until it’s necessary.

Baba Ram Rahim has received ten parole under this act only throughout the last three years.

What was the SGPC’s parole petition against Baba Ram Rahim and why did it file it?

SGPC was against the repetitive paroles granted to Baba Ram Rahim and hence wanted the Hon’ble High Court of Punjab and Haryana to look into the matter.

It has come to notice that Baba Ram Rahim had gained a new level of respect and support from the public due to all the humanitarian and environmental works planned by the Dera. This made Baba Ram Rahim all the more eligible for the parole that the authorities have been granting lately.

But nevertheless, the parole also made certain people suspicious of the act. Thus, the community of SGPC filed an official petition in the honorable High Court of Punjab and Haryana against the parole act in Baba Ram Rahim’s case.

So why was the petition against Baba Ram Rahim’s parole dismissed by the honorable High Court?

The honorable High Court had a detailed investigation into the parole case of Baba Ram Rahim. There was nothing illegal going on with the parole granted to Baba Ram Rahim.

Furthermore, Baba Ram Rahim had no parole petition declined before 2024. The last petition of parole in 2024 was declined because the authorities could not verify the place of stay on their behalf.
