33% Reservation for Girls in Bihar medical and Engineering colleges

The Bihar government recently proposed the reservation for girls in all medical and engineering colleges. According to which Bihar will be the first state to reserve one-third of their seats for girls in engineering and medical education.

Bihar Government had in 2016 to reserve 50 per cent seats for primary education of girls, 35 per cent for their secondary education, 35 per cent for women’s job in police and 33 per cent for other government jobs. And now they proposed 33 per cent reserved seats in the medical and engineering field to increase the number of girls in technical and medical education.

A government official also said that in medical colleges there is 30 per cent of girls pursuing it, while in engineering colleges, it is only up to 15 per cent of girls. Though, there are 38 engineering colleges with 2,035 seats and 11 medical colleges with 1,330 medical and BDS seats. They are being opened in every district and four new universities are also soon to be opened said the state government. All this is to increase the level of education in their state so that no student has to go out for higher medical and engineering education, said CM Nitish Kumar.

Apart from this, the State government also proposed to give 50,000 cash incentives to those girls who pass their graduation, which will enable them to further pursue higher education.

Bicycles and school uniforms were also given to girls and had later been extended to boys as well.
