World Toilet Day (WTD) is an official day observed by the United Nations. It is celebrated on November 19th, to aware people about global sanitation crisis. The UN-Water manages the official website of WTD and makes announcements for all their events, activities and volunteer opportunities. The theme for the year 2017 is “wastewater.”

And it is indeed one of the most relevant days for our India.

Realising the significance and relevance of today’s Indian scenario, Government of India runs a Swachha Bharat Abhiyan, a campaign aimed at cleaning up the streets, roads and eliminating open defecation problem. The mission is to achieve Open-Defecation Free India by October 2nd, 2019, the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi by constructing toilets all over rural India.

The concept is now trendy in Bollywood and 2017 witnessed two huge blockbusters promoting Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

Toilet: EkPrem Katha, starring Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar in lead roles is a comedy drama. The film weaves a love story around the issue of open defecation in rural areas.

Jattu Engineer, the next on the list, is a comedy film starring Saint Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Insan in lead role and very efficiently portrays poverty, unemployment and drug menace in rural India.

Both the films are satires in support of campaigns run by the government to check the hygiene issues, with a special emphasis on open defecation.

The most interesting news bit in this context is that the UN-Water extended invites to Saint Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Insan and his daughter HoneypreetInsan, two of the most renowned and influential Indians for the international event this year via twitter.
