Indian Nightingale Lata Mangeshkar passes away at 92

Lata Mangeshkar, who ruled the country and the world for decades with her melodious voice, has passed away today on 6 February 2022.

The ‘Bharat Ratna‘ awardee singer breathed her last at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital. She was 92 years old. She is known worldwide as the ‘Nightingale of India, ruled the female playback singing in Hindi cinema for nearly five decades. Lata ji started his career in 1942 at the age of just 13 years. She has sung more than 30 thousand songs so far in many Indian languages. She has also been awarded the Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest civilian award. Apart from this, he has also been honored with many other awards like Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan and Dadasaheb Phalke Award.

Lata was born in a Gomantak Maratha Samaj family, in the city of Indore, Madhya Pradesh as the eldest daughter of Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar in a middle-class family. His father was a theater singer and LGK artist . From family, her brother Hridaynath Mangeshkar and sisters Usha Mangeshkar, Meena Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle all chose music for their livelihood. Lata Ji was born in Indore, but she was brought up in Maharashtra. Lata Mangeshkar Ji wanted to become a singer since childhood.

Seeing a film chandidas by Kundan Lal Sehgal in her childhood, she had said that she would grow up to marry Sehgal. A film directed by Vasang Joglekar, Lata Mangeshkar Ji decided to sang for keerti haasal for the first time. But her father did not want her to sing for films so the song was dropped from the film. But Vasant Joglekar was greatly impressed by his talent.

Lata Mangeshkar was ill for a long time

She was admitted to a hospital in Mumbai after she was found corona positive in January. Later she suffered from pneumonia. Lata Mangeshkar Ji was put on ventilator support after his condition worsened. Ventilator support was withdrawn when doctor realise her condition improved. But on 5 February her condition again started deteriorating and she was again put on ventilator support for her betterment. On 6 February, She breathed his last.

Veteran celebrities paid tribute

Veteran personalities from all over the world including India have mourned the death of Lata Mangeshkar Ji. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji tweeted several pictures with Lata Ji and wrote, ‘The caring and kind Lata didi has left us. She has left a void in our country that will never be filled in any way.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari ji wrote, ‘Her passing is an irreparable loss to our country. She was always being an inspiration to all music seekers.

Lata didi was an intense patriot. Mangeshkar life has been full of many achievements. She has always been an inspiration to all of us for good deeds and learner. Her contribution to Indian music is incomparable. By singing more than 30 thousand songs, her voice has blessed the music world. Lata didi was of very calm nature, beautiful soul and rich in talent. Shiv Sena spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut wrote, ‘What’s to live without you…’
