A mega tree plantation drive is being organised by Dera Sacha Sauda today, August 14, 2026, on the occasion of the birthday of its present chief, Saint Dr Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insan.
Although the exact number of trees planted today is still awaited, initial data from plantations carried out in different countries indicates that the total figure is expected to reach lakhs.

A multination project organised concurrently
It has been reported that this mega tree plantation drive was carried out in more than 20 countries including:
- Melbourne (Sunbury), Australia: Plantation of around 3,000 saplings.
- Brisbane South, Australia: Plantation of around 800 trees.
- London (Birmingham), England: Plantation of around 452 saplings.
- Vancouver, Canada: Plantation of around 500 saplings.
According to reports, volunteers were encouraged to participate in an organised manner by planting trees on barren lands, in nearby parks, and even around their homes. The plantation drive began at 8 a.m. today, with an emphasis on planting fruitful and dense, shelter-providing trees.
But Why was this mega project undertaken?
It has come to notice that the month of August holds special significance for Dera Sacha Sauda volunteers as the birthday of their present chief, Saint Dr Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insan, falls on August 15.
To express their respect and celebrate the occasion, the organisation has adopted a unique way of celebrating — tree plantation. The idea is simple: a planted and nurtured tree can become an everlasting gift while simultaneously spreading the message of nature conservation.
This mega tree plantation drive has reportedly been carried out every year around August 14 or 15 since 2007.
35,07,88,644 trees planted globally since 2007: another astonishing milestone coming to highlights
This tree plantation campaign by Dera Sacha Sauda has been reported to start in 2007. And it is astonishingly great that millions of trees have been planted in the last 19 years – 350,788,644 to be precise.
According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Dera Sacha Sauda also has 3 tree plantation drive records in its name:
- First Record – August 15, 2009
In just one hour, 938,007 saplings were planted in different states.
- Second Record – August 15, 2009
On the same day, 6,873,451 saplings were planted in 8 hours at 367 locations by 169,920 volunteers.
- Third Record – August 15, 2011
History repeated itself, setting a new record by planting 1,945,535 trees in one hour.

Viewed in the lens of environmental benefits, the recent reports of economists have shown that this has been a beneficial undertaking,not just because the numbers are massive, but also because survival is taken into account!
According to the data, the survival rate of the trees planted by Dera Sacha Sauda is around ~80% – which is enough to outweigh any kind of problem that can be faced in a mega campaign.
