Plastics are transparent, light-weight, inexpensive and flexible materials. Due to these properties, they’ve become commodity packaging materials over the past few decades. What we failed to notice early on with the plastics is that these are biodegradable in nature and can become fatal for the marine life. As a result, the oceans and even lands are choking with this menace.
India, The Global Host 2018
Having realized the threat posed to environment, the United Nations organized the first environmental conference of countries all over the world in Stockholm (Sweden) in 1972 and 5th June was declared as the World Environment Day to make the citizens aware of the pollution menace. As the world suffers from the single-use, non-recyclable plastics, India is the global host of the annual events.

This year’s theme for World Environment Day is ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’ and the social media is flooded with posts to spread awareness. Celebrities have posted various pictures and their thoughts. The internationally renowned sand artists Sudarsan Pattnaik and Manas Kumar Sahoo have given a thoughtful meaning to their wonderful art.

Our world will be so better of a place when change reaches where it is needed the most. There are countless projects that conservationists are selflessly involved in, and we sincerely hope with all our hearts that each one succeeds. At personal level, I give up the use of plastic bags and will carry my own cloth bad wherever I go.
