The whole story was set in Afghanistan, to be particular it’s in Kabul from year 1960’s to 2000. Thousand splendid Sun is the story of two girls Mariam & Laila, who lived differently but bought together in a war. The life of both the girls change drastically after the Taliban to control over the Afghanistan.

The Book is Divided into 4 Parts

Part 1 Is the story of Mariam, whereas part 2 is the story of Laila, & in part 3 you read that both life gets together and a new relation was start. & The part 4 is just like a conclusion.

Characters

Mariam was an illegitimate daughter of Jalil, she lives with her mother where her father often visit her but after her mother committed suicide she was taken by her father to his house where she face to much pain & blames from the other wife of his father. she wasn’t took long in that house and was married in the age of 15 to a man who was like 20 years senior to her. His name was Rasheed and this is from where the true story begins. There were lots of characters in part 1 but they’re not for too long like Mariam’s mother & some neighbours of Mariam after she get married to Rasheed.
A Thousand Splendid Suns Book Review Daily Bees
The writer completely focused on Rasheed and Mariam in part 1. whereas Laila was an intelligent girl and belongs to a very good family & her father was a university teacher and in part 2 there are many characters like Laila’s parents, her female friends, childhood friends Tariq who played an important role in whole story. she lives a beautiful life where she expected to have a personal fulfillment after studies. But war changed Everything.

The book comprehend the life of women’s in Afghanistan that how they are treated there. where women’s face lots of discrimination which you can read from this book.

This book was written so well, that you can feel the realness in it. It feels like characters are narrating the story to you like face to face.

Good Thing About A Thousand Splendid Suns

Even though the book was little lengthy but it doesn’t feel that way. It is written in such a way that it doesn’t bore you. Your excitement level doubles with every chapter.

Why to Read This book?

I think “A Thousand Splendid Suns” is a must read book for any of the reader in this world. Pick it out from any of the bookstore & start Reading. It should be because Khalid personally observed the women’s living in Afghanistan. Yes! he went to Kabul just after his first book is came out. He met many of the women living there & asked about there lives and children’s future. And from there he got the idea to write something about Afghanistan women so today is to give a voice & deserving rights to them. His idea took shape of a book in which he expressed the mother-daughter relationship very meticulously. The struggles, hardships and sacrifices which make this book very emotional but stills help in making it very readable.

Personal Thoughts

I wanted to read it every single day. Though I read it in a 3 weeks because from third part of this book I slow down. Seriously, you fall in love with this masterpiece.
