The National Girl Child Day is celebrated on the 24th of January every year to spread awareness among people about the safety and upliftment of girls in society. The day has been initiated with a point of view to lessen the cases of female foeticides and help girls to live a discrimination-free life.

1. WHEN WAS THE NATIONAL GIRL CHILD DAY INITIATED?
To aware people of the issues faced by girls in society, the Ministry of Women and Child Development initiated the day in 2008. The day was initiated to empower girls for their rights and provide them with a healthy environment. The main agenda of celebrating this day is also to make people understand the equality of gender ratio i.e. why it is important for the males and females to be equal in ratio.
Today’s girls need a safe environment to grow and develop. So, it became necessary for the government to spread awareness in society for the rights and protection of a female child.
It also signifies the educational and nutritional development of girls. The dignity and honor of a girl child are also promoted as a sign of this day.
2. THE NATIONAL GIRL CHILD DAY 2022: THEME
Every year, a theme is followed for the awareness and celebrations among all the NGOs and educational institutions. The concept of a discrimination-free world for girls is promoted via various functions, seminars, and competitions.
“Empowering Girls For A Brighter Tomorrow” is the theme for the celebration of national girl child day 2022.
The theme is well decided as there is a need to empower girls and make them independent on their own for a better future.
3. AWARENESS FOR THE EQUALITY OF GENDER RATIO:-
Although the world is being educated about Women’s Empowerment and their rights, still there is a section of society that believes that the birth of a girl child is a bane. People need to understand that there will be no tomorrow if the girl child is not a part of society. She gives birth and balances society. Without her, it is impossible for the male generation to survive.
There should be an equal gender ratio. Females should be treated equally to males. They should be provided with the same rights and opportunities to develop their character and personalities.
There should be equal growth, educational and nutritional benefits for women. Additionally, career options for them should also be balanced with men.
4. HOW CAN WE CONTRIBUTE TO THE NATIONAL GIRL CHILD DAY?
We should also contribute to this great initiative by treating girls with dignity and honor. No girl should be harassed or discouraged by us. The thinking of biased behavior should be avoided. The birth of a girl child day should be considered as a blessing to the family.
Girls should be provided with a healthy and safe environment by society and society is made by us. If all the individuals pledge to empower the women in society, the world will become heaven and worthy of living for women.
